BC of the Day #7: Anonymous Hacktivists

“Beware the 9th of June, we take back what is ours”

Already, some 500 people have agreed to participate in the non-violent protest against Internet curbs in Hyderabad. Support for protests in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata, is also gaining momentum. The numbers are increasing while I write this. The global movement against curbs on Internet freedom is finally here.

And about time. Copyright and what crosses the line is a big grey area. Is there anything on the Internet that is original today? Marketing today thrives on users sharing content. ‘Kolaveri Di’ is a perfect example of marketing through social media. It is actually ironic that certain file sharing websites were blocked by some ISPs due to a Chennai HC order in favor of the producers of the Tamil movie ‘3’. It is the same movie whose marketing strategy (thanks to videos of Kolaveri Di that went viral) has garnered lot of awards.

I understand copyright issues. But blocking the whole site for one movie ? How is that fair ? Are Internet users really free  to decide what they want to do on the internet ?

BC of the Day #6: Sunny Leone and a Tale of two…

Top stories of today:

Mamata sweeps urban Bengal, but loses Haldia (Yes, Mamtaji, Haldia is probably ‘Maoist’)

Congress won’t field candidate against Mulayam’s bahu (One Dynasty against the other, no, how could that be?)

US Strike kills Al Qaeda No. 2 (Yawn)

Diggy mocks Gadkari for touching Ramdev Baba’s feet (Oh Diggy ! Don’t forget your own stupid feats in the past !)

Google buys Meebo (And Quickoffice too, as if it wasn’t everywhere already!)

Djokovic makes stunning comeback to overcome Tsonga (And I couldn’t care less)

Well, so much has happened!

But I’ve missed out the most important news of all, and here’s the BC of the Day, specially dedicated to her !

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way”

-Charles Dicken, A Tale of Two Cities

Why is this important ? Apart from this being a marketing strategy for Jism 2 (yes, I am a sincere marketing student), I want to see who buys the lingerie on sale. Buying lingerie of your favorite actress is one thing. Buying lingerie of a porn actress is another. India has largely been hypocritical when it comes to sex and related topics. It is the same India that revels in Pallu-ed ladies in TV soaps, the epitome of the ‘ideal’ bahu. It abhors public displays of affection like a simple peck on the cheeks. It takes pride in the sanskaars which have been passed on from generation to another.  But India seems to have accepted Sunny Leone into the mainstream. Is India slowly moving on from being a conservative society to a permissive one?

No, not really! The same India doesn’t allow ‘The Dirty Picture’ to be shown on TV. The same India created a furor over the ‘obscene’ paintings by M F Hussain. It is the same nation which created a big controversy about the sex scene in a TV soap (if a bit of smooching and fake orgasmic expressions on being kissed count as sex). So it seems as if we are selective in what is acceptable and what is not.

That is why any news about Sunny Leone is so important.

PS I hope Charles Dickens isn’t rolling in his grave. 🙁

BC of the Day #5: Anna Karo mat na !

So here’s the newest BC !

“”But that’s just the aim of civilization – to make everything a source of enjoyment.”

Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenia

So, Anna is going on a fast today, with Ramdev Baba of all people. I must say, I find it highly distasteful. I am still undecided if I support the Lokpal in the first place or not. More laws and power into the hands of officials (even if they may be part of the Lokpal) doesn’t exactly suit me. But I am also tired of the constant rigmarole by politicians and never ending corruption. Fast all you want, but please don’t do it with Ramdev!

BC of the Day #4: Adventures of Shikhandi

So, today’s BC is based on the current controversy of the PM being called “Shikhandi” by Prashant Bhushan. This comes after charges have been levelled against him by Team Anna. You can read about it here and here.

Extra Remarks: Suppandi ? Or Shikhandi ? Potato, Pateto ! 😀

BC of the Day #3: The places you’ll go ! Poonam Pandey does it finally !

Yes, Poonam Pandey has finally stripped after threatening (yes, that’s the right word) to do so since India won the World Cup.

Here’s the news article.

Toh, ek BC of the Day, Poonam Pandey ke liye, toh bantaa hai, boss !

‘Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.’

-Dr. Seuss

I do not have a problem with women wearing (or not wearing) whatever they want or doing whatever they want with their sexuality. But what Poonam Pandey did propagates the objectification of women, as if Bollywood wasn’t enough? No, I do not care about the ‘moral’ aspect of it. One has the right to live their lives they want to. But I just wish that girls wouldn’t become so desperate to make it big in this industry and resort to such tactics. What happened to women actually using their brains instead of their bodies? But wait, who cares ? We are all busy downloading that picture of Poonam Pandey.

P.S. This is ironic because it’s a children’s book.

BC of the Day #1 : BJP wears Prada ???

So, I’ve been experimenting with photoshop and learning bit by bit. I have put up those pics here on this blog, trying to relate books and current affairs. Now on wards I will regularly updating a Book Cover (Yes, that’s what I meant by BC !) along with the regular stuff on books.

Here’s Book Cover of the Day !

Coming Soon ! 😛

So tell me what you think !!

Also, share it if you like it !!
